The Beirut port incident has reaffirmed that disasters can sometimes not be prevented, but strategic planning could be the best way to address them. Securing strategic food stocks, for example, has become a major priority issue for countries especially during the Coronavirus pandemic. The security of vital facilities in general and ports in particular must be periodically reviewed.
