On May 13, 2018, China announced the launch of its first domestic aircraft carrier from the north-eastern port of China to the South China Sea, accompanied by naval vessels. According to Chinese Defense Ministry sources, the carrier weighs 55,000 tons and can carry 40 aircrafts.
