During the Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties, Muslims and Arabs led the world economically (and intellectually, artistically, etc.), with Shari’a commercial law ushering in unprecedented prosperity. A desire to reap some of the benefits of this economic advance was one of the reasons for the spread of Islam to China and Indonesia.
