The Russian-American Conflict in Syria and Its Impact on Regional Security

Abstract

This paper examines the Russian-American conflict in Syria by identifying the interests of both parties in the crisis and the mechanisms through which they defend those interests, as well as the areas where these interests converge or intersect. The study also addresses the determinants of this conflict, which are linked not only to the Syrian crisis itself, but also to broader issues such as the Ukrainian crisis and Russia’s confrontation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), of which the United States is the principal member.
The paper concludes with several findings, most importantly that the Russian-American rivalry in the region and beyond is expected to continue in the future, with the Middle East remaining a major arena of competition. The issue of the American military presence in Syria will continue to represent a significant source of debate and confrontation between the two countries. The study further argues that the Syrian crisis will remain a decisive battleground between Russia and the United States, one that will largely shape the future of the international order as well as the structure of global power and alliances.
