Derasat is an independent think tank in the Kingdom of Bahrain established in 2009, that analyses and researches strategic developments on a national, regional and global scale that have relevance to Bahrain’s prosperity, sustainability and resilience.
We are dedicated to encouraging the use of research and dialogue to inform policy makers and interest groups and to increase understanding of current and emerging international issues. In today’s rapidly changing world of opportunities and challenges, we aim to build bridges between differing perspectives, create forums for open debate, use strategic insight to enhance understanding and promote new thinking that can generate creative solutions for our future peace, security and stability, while ensuring that our objectives and initiatives are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to maximize positive impact at both the national and international levels.

Contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) contributes to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through policy-relevant research, strategic analysis, and international cooperation. Derasat’s activities support evidence-based decision-making and advance sustainable development outcomes across the domains of energy, climate, and international affairs.

SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

Derasat Center supports the achievement of SDG 7 by producing research and policy analysis on energy security, energy transition pathways, renewable energy deployment, and sustainable energy governance. These efforts contribute to improved access to reliable, sustainable, and modern energy services and inform long-term energy planning.

SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

In line with SDG 9, Derasat Center conducts analytical work on energy infrastructure, technological innovation, and strategic industries. This research supports the development of resilient infrastructure, promotes innovation, and informs policies aimed at sustainable industrial development.

SDG 13 – Climate Action

Derasat Center contributes to SDG 13 by examining the strategic, economic, and geopolitical dimensions of climate change and energy transition. Its research supports climate-informed policymaking, mitigation and adaptation strategies, and the integration of climate considerations into national and international frameworks.

SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Through research on international relations, geopolitics, and global governance, Derasat Center advances SDG 16 by supporting inclusive, effective, and accountable institutions, enhancing policy coherence, and contributing to conflict prevention and international stability.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

Derasat Center advances SDG 17 by fostering partnerships with academic institutions, international organizations, government entities, and other stakeholders. These partnerships enhance knowledge sharing, capacity-building, and coordinated responses to complex sustainable development challenges.
