The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) held a workshop titled “From Idea to Cybersecurity Research: Key Challenges and Current Trends,” presented by Dr. Abdulla Khalifa Al Doseri, Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Bahrain’s College of Information Technology and a member of the Scientific Research Committee on Cybersecurity. It brought together researchers, academics, specialists and practitioners from government entities, academic institutions, and the ICT sector.

The workshop aimed to strengthen cybersecurity research capacity and introduce participants to the key stages of scientific research. It sought to help them develop clear, feasible research ideas and skills in defining research problems, selecting suitable methods and tools, analyzing results and writing research papers.

The lecturer explained how to identify research gaps and current and emerging trends in cybersecurity research, turn an initial idea into a clear research problem, and define research objectives, scope and methodology. He also covered research design and implementation, selecting suitable tools and data, and evaluation and validation methods. Further topics included analyzing and presenting results, preparing research papers and academic publishing, as well as key challenges, common mistakes and ways to address them.

The workshop combined theory, practical examples and case studies in an interactive format. Participants discussed cybersecurity research issues and exchanged expertise and practices with specialists and researchers from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

The workshop forms part of the 2026–2027 efforts of the Scientific Research Committee on Cybersecurity to support scientific research, build research capacity, and promote interest in emerging issues and challenges in cybersecurity and modern technologies.
