The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) organized an online lecture titled “The Regional Landscape on the Day After,” delivered by prominent international security scholar Dr. Rob Geist Pinfold, in the presence of researchers, experts, and interested participants.

The lecture moderated by Dr. Omar Ahmed Alubaydli, Studies and Research Director, addressed a central question shaped by the current phase: how can the security architecture of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries be reshaped amid ongoing conflict? It offered a balanced analytical perspective, concluding that while war represents a significant strategic shock, it does not necessarily lead to fundamental shifts in the GCC’s grand strategies. Rather, the current landscape highlights the depth of GCC strategic awareness, its capacity for measured adaptation, and its ability to manage challenges within stable institutional frameworks.

The discussion emphasized that GCC countries approach the regional environment through a mature strategic vision, balancing relations among key international actors while managing risks and safeguarding economic stability. This reflects the prudence of GCC leadership in interpreting global dynamics and employing foreign policy tools to protect core interests and prevent escalation.

The lecturer noted that this approach does not reflect rigidity, but rather calculated dynamism and long-term vision. This is evident in enhanced internal GCC coordination, evolving defense priorities aligned with emerging threats, and proactive regional diplomacy – strengthening collective GCC action and its capacity to shape, rather than merely respond to, regional dynamics.

The lecture concluded that the “day after” in the region is likely to be characterized by “continuity under pressure” rather than a complete strategic rupture. This underscores the maturity of the GCC experience in crisis management, its ability to balance security and stability with sustained regional and international cooperation, and its accumulated institutional expertise and political prudence in navigating shocks and shaping a more stable regional future.
