The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) has published a study titled “India’s Maritime Security Strategy and Its Significance for the Arabian Gulf States,” authored by Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Keshk, Director of the Strategic and International Studies Program. The publication forms part of the Center’s research on regional security issues and the developments shaping the strategic interests of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The study examines the foundations of India’s maritime security strategy and its significance for GCC countries considering shared interests in protecting maritime routes and safeguarding trade flows and energy supplies. It also reviews frameworks for maritime cooperation between the two sides through agreements, joint training exercises, and participation in maritime security organizations and arrangements.

The study further explores the significance of the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor; the opportunities it may offer to strengthen maritime and economic cooperation between the two sides; and the challenges associated with its implementation. It also proposes establishing a regional security forum for West Asian countries to support security and economic coordination, with particular emphasis on maritime security and the protection of shared interests.
