Derasat Center ‘ThinkTalk’ lecture discusses the Bapco Modernization
The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) organized a ‘ThinkTalk’ lecture titled ‘Analytical Perspectives on the Bapco Modernization Project (BMP)’. The lecture showcased key analytical findings from a recent study published by the Center, which details the structural transformation as a result of the BMP. The study also highlighted the BMP’s economic, industrial, and environmental benefits for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region.
The lecture was attended by Engineer Sayed Mahmood Al Matooq, Executive Vice President for Technical Services and Engineering and Acting BMP Director at Bapco Refining, along with a selected group of specialists and researchers, as well as the authors of the study: Dr. Abdulla Isa Al Abbasi, Director of the Energy and Environment Studies Program at the Center; Engineer Sabeeka Khalid Ismail, Assistant Analyst; and Associate Professor Dr. Mohammed Ali Bin Shams, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Bahrain. The event was also attended by several national figures concerned with energy and sustainable development, in a discussion that focused on reviewing the study’s findings and analyzing its strategic implications.
Discussions focused on the study’s conclusion that the BMP was not merely a technical expansion, but rather a qualitative leap that redefined the Kingdom of Bahrain’s role in the regional energy landscape. This transformation was achieved through the establishment of an advanced refining system that meets the highest global standards of operational efficiency, product quality, and environmental compliance, positioning the Company as a leader among modern refineries in the region.
This lecture is part of Derasat’s commitment to opening in-depth discussions around its research outputs, and transforming them into interactive platforms that highlight successful national experiences to enhance understanding of their strategic dimensions. This, in turn, supports the development of realistic energy policies grounded in achievement, and reinforces the Kingdom of Bahrain’s position as an active player in the regional energy landscape.
