Dr. Omar Ahmad Al-Ubaydli, Director of Studies and Research at the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), participated in an online seminar organized by the Atlantic Council through the “Middle East and North Africa Future Lab”, titled: “GCC Fiscal Resilience and Macroeconomic Stability in GCC Countries During the Iran War”.The seminar addressed the economic dimensions of current regional developments and their implications for Arabian Gulf economies. Al-Ubaydli emphasized that ongoing geopolitical challenges have underscored the robustness of the region’s economic structures and governments’ ability to maintain financial stability and ensure the efficient continuity of essential services, despite rapid regional and global transformations. He noted that Arabian Gulf countries have successfully established advanced financial resilience tools, including effective public financial management, strengthened reserves, and the strategic activation of sovereign wealth funds, which have played a key role in absorbing economic shocks and maintaining market confidence.
He further explained that challenges related to supply chains and energy markets have clearly demonstrated the strength and adaptability of GCC economies, stressing that regional stability is a fundamental pillar of the global economy given the strategic importance of vital trade routes and freedom of navigation. He added that the performance of GCC countries reflects an advanced model of economic stability management, where flexible fiscal policies have been integrated with responsible diplomacy and strong Gulf coordination, enhancing collective resilience. Derasat’s participation comes as part of its efforts to contribute to international policy discussions and strengthen the Kingdom of Bahrain’s intellectual presence globally. The Atlantic Council is one of the world’s leading think tanks, and it maintains a memorandum of understanding with Derasat that reflects deep research collaboration and the exchange of expertise between both institutions.
