Eighth Episode of the “Sound of Thought” Podcast
In the eighth episode of the “Voice of Thought” series from “Studies,” we host His Excellency Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al-Naimi, Minister of Media, in an intellectual dialogue addressing issues of the Arab mind, identity, the nation-state, and questions of reform, coexistence, and citizenship in light of the rapid transformations the region is undergoing.
The discussion provides an opportunity to reflect on the challenges posed by transnational identities and projects, as contrasted with the model of the modern nation-state that the Arab Gulf states have established through sustainable development, stability, institution-building, and the promotion of a unifying identity. It also discusses how Arab societies can develop a greater capacity for self-understanding, preserve national belonging, entrench the values of citizenship, and build a future based on moderation, coexistence, and trust in the state and its institutions.
The dialogue does not stop at intellectual analysis but proposes a broader vision that can be described as a call to develop a Gulf school of thought on the modern state, drawing on the Gulf experience in general and the Bahraini experience in particular, as a well-established model for institution-building, consolidating stability, and strengthening national identity. The goal is not to replace concepts or rename phenomena, but rather to produce a conceptual framework rooted in the historical and social experience of the Gulf states, one that grants societies the right to define themselves and formulate their own political concepts based on their specific realities and experiences.
