Ahmed Khalil Buhejji is a Bahraini diplomat with nearly ten years of professional experience at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain. He currently serves as a First Secretary and Deputy Head of the UN Security Council Team at the Ministry’s headquarters, where his work focuses on Security Council affairs, strategic planning, policy and speech drafting, and preparations related to Bahrain’s multilateral engagements, including its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.
From 2018 to 2023, he served at the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, where he oversaw political affairs with an emphasis on regional bilateral and multilateral relations. His responsibilities included speechwriting, public diplomacy, high-level political reporting, and contributing to the work of the Ministry’s policy planning team. Earlier in his career, he also served at the GCC Affairs Directorate, where he worked on the Gulf Cooperation Council strategic dialogues file.
Across these roles, he developed a strong background in managing bilateral and multilateral portfolios, intergovernmental coordination, and strategic policy formulation, and participated in a wide range of regional and international engagements.

Alongside his diplomatic career, Ahmed has accumulated substantive think-tank experience. He previously served as a Non-Resident Research Fellow at the Cambridge Middle East and North Africa Forum, where his research focused on grand strategy and regional geopolitical dynamics. He currently serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Fiker Institute, where his work centers on economic diplomacy, nation branding, geopolitical foresight, GCC foreign policy, and the nexus between energy markets and diplomacy.
Ahmed holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Queen Mary, University of London and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from DePaul University.
