One Region, One Vision: Highlights from GWECCC 2025
The Kingdom of Bahrain hosted the Global Water, Energy & Climate Change Congress (GWECCC) from 9-11 September 2025, with the support of leading government and industry partners. The Congress serves as a flagship platform dedicated to advancing dialogue and action on water, energy, and climate security across the Gulf region through a unified vision.
The three-day program brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and innovators to discuss the pressing challenges of energy transition and climate resilience. The agenda spanned high-level sessions, leadership forums, technical panels, and interactive workshops, addressing themes such as sustainable financing, digital transformation, clean hydrogen, and integrated water and energy systems.
Distinguished leaders from government, industry, and international organizations shared perspectives on advancing sustainable growth while navigating the energy transition. Discussions unfolded through a series of keynote addresses and leadership panels, each underscoring the delicate balance between economic progress, technological innovation, and environmental stewardship. Over the following days, specialized forums on technology and hydrogen, alongside technical sessions on carbon capture, water treatment, and renewable integration, provided participants with a deeper exploration of the solutions shaping a resilient future. The program concluded with sessions designed to distill findings into actionable insights, aiming to extend conversations beyond the congress and into long-term strategies.
Youth engagement was a defining pillar of GWECCC 2025, giving a platform to the voices of emerging sustainability leaders. I had the privilege of participating in the Youth–Leader Dialogue; an intergenerational exchange that created space for bold ideas and collaborative reflection. The dialogue highlighted the role of youth-led innovation in addressing the water-energy-climate nexus, as well as the value of linking such outlooks with policymaking and industry strategies. Personally, the experience was both inspiring and enriching, reinforcing the belief that meaningful progress arises when diverse perspectives join forces to shape pathways toward a net-zero future.
By convening such expertise under the theme of sustainability and resilience, the GWECCC contributes to strengthening cross-sector partnerships, accelerating innovation, and promoting strategies that safeguard economic, environmental, and socialwell-being.
