Although the oil sector is the backbone of the global economy, it is most vulnerable to security threats due to the narrow sea lanes for oil tankers and, therefore, vulnerability to attacks from booby-trapped speed boats owned by terrorist groups and their supporting countries.  These incidents once again raise the issue of energy security.
