Writing Objectives at Derasat

Derasat Center’s printed and digital publications – whether featured in the Center’s periodicals or published independently – aim to disseminate high-quality research that address issues related to the Arabian Gulf region, the Middle East, and the world. The focus is particularly on security and defense, diplomacy and foreign policy, international relations, the economy, energy, and the environment, from a comprehensive strategic perspective.

  1. Publishing Guidelines
  • Research must be original and provide added intellectual value, avoiding repetition of traditional topics.
  • Research should be directly or indirectly related to issues concerning the Kingdom of Bahrain, the GCC countries, or regional and international matters with strategic implications for the region.
  • The content must be objective and must not include any offensive material toward individuals, countries, religions, or cultures.
  1. Publishing Requirements
  • Research must not be previously published, either in print or electronically.
  • The Center retains full publication rights. Republishing the accepted material in any form without written permission is prohibited.
  • Submissions must adhere to the approved scientific methodology in terms of analysis and documentation.
  • References must follow the Chicago Style citation format.
  • Studies are accepted in both Arabic and English.
  • The length of the submission should fall within the following ranges (subject to negotiation regarding length and frequency):
    • Media articles: 700 – 1000 words
    • Reports: 2000 – 3000 words
    • Research: 6000 words and above
  • The non-resident fellow must adhere to agreed deadlines and engage with reviews and feedback from the Publishing and Quality Department, as well as research program directors.
  • The fellow must indicate their affiliation as a ‘Non-Resident Fellow at the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat)’ in any relevant publication (in coordination with the Center).
  1. Publishing Process
  • Fellows may submit initial abstracts for discussion or submit completed studies.
  • All submissions undergo peer review by specialized reviewers. The Center reserves the right to accept, reject, or request modifications.
  • The fellow will be notified of the final publication decision once all procedures are complete.
  • All submissions and communications are conducted electronically with no need for physical correspondence.
  • A response to proposals will be provided within a maximum of 30 days from the date of receipt.
  • All submissions are subject to the Center’s quality control and academic integrity standards.
  1. Intellectual Property
  • All materials published by the Center are considered its property, while preserving the non-resident fellow’s scientific credit.
  • Republishing on other platforms is not permitted without prior written approval from the Center.
