Turkey and the Gulf: Dialogue in the Middle East
In collaboration with The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV), the Carnegie Middle East Center and the Gulf Research Center (GRC), Derasat will host a one-day workshop entitled, ‘Turkey and the Gulf: Dialogue in the Middle East’, on September 5th, 2012, Given the unpredictable outcomes of the situation in Syria, continued sectarian violence in Iraq and Iran’s isolationism, the Forum will discuss an increasingly volatile regional outlook. Despite the potential risks to the region the forum will focus on identifying opportunities for increased cooperation and dialogue that might diffuse tensions and explore how a prosperous and peaceful regional future can be built. The workshop aims to: • Develop greater understanding of perspectives on the current environment including nuclear proliferation. • Facilitate dialogue between key Turkish and Gulf Arab representatives. • Recommend strategies that can contribute to building a more prosperous future for the region. • Consider Turkey’s role as a constructive regional player at government and non-governmental levels.
