The Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) held its fifth meeting under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board, in the presence of Board members: Dr. Ahmed Hashim Alyushaa, Dr. Waheeb Essa Alnasser, Dr. Abdulrahman Abdul Hussain Jawahery and Dr. Khalifa Ali Alfadhel.

The Brussels-based Royal Institute for International Relations hosted at its headquarters His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), who gave a lecture entitled “Regional Developments in the Gulf Region” in the presence of a number of heads of strategic studies centers, ambassadors, specialists and the media.

According to His Excellency Dr. Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), Iran’s scheme for domination and expansion, the destructive role of Qatar and its interference in the internal affairs of other countries, the rising tide of terrorism including cyber terrorism, the threats to international marine traffic and energy supplies and the possible undesirable side effects of economic modernization plans are the key security challenges facing the Gulf region as a strategically important part of the Middle East and the world.

The Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) was ranked among the top five research centers in the Arab world in 2017, according to the latest rating by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR).
