The economic integration of its members was one of the most important goals for the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Since its establishment, the Council has adopted a number of decisions aimed at increasing the integration between its member states. However, data shows that many of these decisions have not been implemented, thus hindering the process of economic integration and a causing the loss of many important economic opportunities. This paper first discusses the process of economic integration in the GCC and compares the real achievements with what was agreed upon during the Gulf summits. Then, the best ways in ensuring compliance with economic and non-economic agreements will be discussed based on the experience of the international community. Based on this discussion specific recommendations are made for the GCC countries to help them push-forward the process of economic integration.
