The fourth Derasat forum concludes with recommendations on food security

The curtain fell on the fourth forum organized by the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT). The three-day seminar opened last Monday (June 21) via videoconference under the theme “Achieving Food Security Strategies: Challenges and Opportunities. Officials representing the legislative and executive branches of government, experts, researchers and other food security stakeholders took part in the online forum. Participants paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for issuing royal directives, endorsing food security as a national blueprint to enhance sustainable food self-sufficiency. They lauded Bahrain’s success since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandfemic in providing food supplies without interruption or increasing prices, haile the role of the Team Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister in bolstering food security. DERASAT Board of Trustees’ Chairman Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa stressed the importance of tackling the food security challenge which was exacerbated by the outbreak of the pandemic. He said that the pandemic took a heavy toll on food-producing sectors and import chains in the world, paying tribute to HM the King who directed at the opening of the third session of the 5 legislative term in October 2020 to bolster Bahrain’s food security.
